Abdelilah Benkirane calls for high turnout in 2026 elections
Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), has called for high voter turnout in the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. Speaking at a national campaign launch festival in Rabat, Benkirane warned against electoral abstention and urged party members to intensify direct communication with voters to explain the party's political program.
Benkirane criticized the current government, noting a decline in public trust attributed to a lack of competence and internal disharmony. He argued that these factors have negatively impacted government performance and contributed to social tension. In contrast, he highlighted the PJD's previous record in local governance, emphasizing transparency and quality of service.
To ensure accountability, PJD candidates have committed to a “Charter of the Elected Official,” which aims to link responsibility with accountability and uphold values of integrity and transparency. The charter was symbolically signed by the party's first deputy secretary-general, Idriss al-Azmi al-Idrissi.
