Abdullah al-Alimi discusses Yemen security and humanitarian aid in New York

During meetings held on the sidelines of the United Nations conference in New York, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council member Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi held several high-level discussions regarding the situation in Yemen.

In a meeting with European Union High Representative Kaja Kallas, al-Alimi addressed regional developments and maritime security. He highlighted the need to protect international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, warning that Houthi military escalations—supported by Iranian weapons and expertise—threaten global trade. He called for the effective implementation of arms embargos and urged for enhanced cooperation with the Yemeni Coast Guard to combat smuggling and organized crime.

Al-Alimi also met with UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Tedii Sheiban to discuss humanitarian responses and child protection. He emphasized the urgent need for services in health, nutrition, and education, particularly as Houthi military escalations increase displacement and pressure on host communities. A specific focus was placed on preventing the recruitment of children by militias and addressing the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict.
