Abdurrahman Evli faces up to 250 years in prison over identity theft

Abdurrahman Evli, a 20-year-old carpenter apprentice from Reyhanlı, Hatay, is facing potential prison sentences of up to 250 years after his bank accounts and mobile lines were allegedly used in widespread fraud schemes.

Evli claims he was targeted after handing his phone to his master's nephew to facilitate receiving his weekly wages via mobile banking. According to his family and lawyer, the individual allegedly seized control of his Facebook account and mobile banking, subsequently opening unauthorized bank accounts and GSM lines in his name.

These accounts were reportedly used to facilitate fraudulent transactions through fake social media advertisements for bungalow and vehicle rentals. As a result, 27 fraud complaints have been filed against him from various provinces, including Sakarya, Antalya, Bursa, Ankara, and Istanbul. Evli is currently serving time in Kilis Prison following convictions in three separate cases, while facing 17 investigations and 10 prosecutions.
