Colombia: President De La Espriella announces new laws and Bogotá coordination office
Colombian President Abelardo De La Espriella has announced several administrative and legislative measures. The government is considering opening specific areas of the Casa de Nariño to the public for cultural and museum purposes to preserve its historical value while maintaining its role as the executive seat.
In terms of law, the President sanctioned Law 2627, which establishes specific prison sentences and fines for the sexual abuse of animals, modifying the existing Penal Code. Additionally, in response to recent environmental emergencies, De La Espriella ordered the creation of an elite group to investigate and capture those responsible for forest fires that have consumed over 20,000 hectares.
Regarding regional governance, the administration has officially launched the Gerencia para Bogotá. This new office, led by Clara Lucía Sandoval, is designed to coordinate strategic projects between the national government and the Bogotá District, focusing on mobility, security, and infrastructure such as the Bogotá Metro.
