Abelardo de la Espriella receives presidential credentials in Colombia
The National Electoral Council (CNE) formally delivered the credentials that certify Abelardo de la Espriella as Colombia’s president‑elect and José Manuel Restrepo as vice‑president‑elect for the 2026‑2030 term. The ceremony took place a day after the council officially announced the results of the second‑round presidential vote held on 21 June, in which de la Espriella, candidate of the Defenders of the Fatherland movement, obtained 12,960,166 votes, ahead of senator Iván Cepeda of the Historic Pact who received 12,708,312 votes, a margin of 251,854 votes. With the credentials, de la Espriella and Restrepo are now authorized to be sworn in before Congress on 7 August, the date that will end the current presidential administration of Gustavo Petro.
