Aberdeen council approves £27 million school upgrade programme
Aberdeen City Council approved a £27.164 million Condition & Suitability Programme to repair and improve council school properties over the next three financial years. The scheme, endorsed by the Finance and Resources Committee on 5 August 2026, will target around 26 schools, including Bridge of Don Academy, Dyce Academy, Harlaw Academy, Northfield Academy and Oldmachar Academy, as well as numerous primary schools.
Planned works cover roof repairs, boiler replacements, security upgrades such as CCTV and fire alarms, toilet and kitchen refurbishments, lighting upgrades, lift replacements and other internal alterations to support community activities and modernise facilities. Council convener Councillor Alex McLellan said the investment is essential to maintain quality facilities for the community, while Council Co‑Leader Ian Yuill stressed that investing in schools is vital for the city’s future.
