AberInnovation Surpasses Growth Targets in Sixth Year, Boosting Bio‑Based Business Hub

AberInnovation, the UKRI innovation campus based at Aberystwyth University, announced that six years after its launch it is operating ahead of its original growth plan. The campus, funded by a £40.5 million capital programme from the European Regional Development Fund, BBSRC and the university, has supported more than 300 product and process development projects and helped tenants and members leverage £27.4 million of investment. It is already profitable and has created a number of high‑skill jobs in bio‑based solutions.

Chair John Berry said, “We are delighted that, six years into operation, AberInnovation is ahead of plan. We are already into profit and, more importantly, starting new companies, boosting economic activity and creating highly skilled jobs.” He credited long‑term commitments from Aberystwyth University, BBSRC and partners such as Innovate UK, IBERS, the Welsh Government and local authorities.

The campus showcased its progress at the Royal Welsh Show 2026, taking part in events including the HELIX Programme Business Breakfast and an Agri‑Food & Digital Tech Innovation showcase, underscoring its role as a nationally recognised hub for scaling bio‑based businesses.
