Aberystwyth bio‑based innovation hub development

In late July 2026, Aberystwyth University’s Gogerddan campus received more than £50 million in funding—including £14.3 million from the Mid Wales Growth Deal and support from UKRI’s BBSRC—to establish the Green Futures Innovation Park. The park is intended to expand the university’s agri‑tech, plant‑science and bio‑based manufacturing capabilities, refurbish facilities and create high‑value jobs.

A week later, the university‑run AberInnovation campus reported that six years after its launch it was ahead of its original growth plan. Backed by a £40.5 million capital programme from the European Regional Development Fund, BBSRC and the university, the hub has supported over 300 product and process projects, attracted £27.4 million of private investment and become profitable, generating skilled employment in bio‑based solutions. The progress was highlighted at the Royal Welsh Show 2026, underscoring the hub’s role as a national centre for scaling bio‑based businesses.
