Abhishek Banerjee summoned by Kolkata Police over Camac Street office clash
Kolkata Police have issued a fresh notice to Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, summoning him for questioning on Monday. The notice follows a complaint filed by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) regarding a clash that occurred on August 27 at Banerjee’s Camac Street office.
The incident began when KMC officials and police attempted to remove what the civic body identified as an illegal billboard. The operation reportedly met resistance from Trinamool Congress workers, leading to a scuffle. According to three FIRs registered at the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, activists are accused of assaulting on-duty personnel and attempting to outrage the modesty of a female police officer.
Banerjee, who has previously undergone more than six hours of interrogation regarding this matter, was served the notice at his Kalighat residence. Other party leaders, including Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien, have also been named in the FIRs. To date, police have arrested 14 individuals in connection with the incident.
