Abia State Moves Forward with $145 Million Solar Manufacturing Plant

The Abia State government and a consortium of local investors, led by MD Nwakamma Nigeria Ltd, have confirmed a public‑private partnership to build a solar panel manufacturing facility worth about $145 million at Umuelele in Isiala Ngwa South. Governor Alex Otti praised the final investment decision and pledged continued support, noting that the state has already provided land and will address any further issues to ensure the project’s success.

The consortium, working with Chinese technical partners, expects the first tranche of funding in September 2026 and aims to begin operations by the end of that year. The plant will produce solar panels and accessories, create jobs, and offer technical training for young people, including opportunities for advanced training in China, positioning Abia as a renewable‑energy hub in Nigeria.
