Abilio Brunini criticizes Federal Police and STF relations

Cuiabá Mayor Abilio Brunini has criticized the Federal Police regarding the conduct of ‘Operation Heritage’. Brunini argued that the police action at the residence of former governor Mauro Mendes was conducted as a ‘spectacle’ for political exposure. He specifically questioned the necessity of an early morning raid to collect Mendes's passport, suggesting the document could have been surrendered voluntarily without such an ostensive display.

In a separate statement, Brunini commented on the relationship between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Supreme Federal Court (STF). He suggested that the President is unlikely to oppose the Court, echoing a journalist's view that the STF ‘elected him’. Brunini also expressed skepticism regarding the ability of the National Congress to challenge STF ministers, citing potential conflicts of interest among senators and predicting that investigations into Court members might eventually be annulled.
