Dutch household investments rise 12% in exceptional quarter
Dutch households experienced an exceptional quarter for investments, with the total value of their holdings rising by more than 12 percent. According to De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), this represents the strongest quarterly increase since the bank began tracking these figures in 2018. By the end of June, households held 234.2 billion euros in stocks, investment funds, and bonds.
This growth was primarily driven by rising stock prices, fueled by enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and high demand for chip stocks. ASML emerged as a leading investment, with households holding 6.1 billion euros in the company. Other significant holdings include Shell (4.1 billion euros) and Rabobank (over 4 billion euros). Other popular investments with holdings exceeding 1 billion euros include ING, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Alphabet.
Separately, the Dutch industrial sector saw an 8.4 percent increase in turnover during the second quarter. This growth was largely led by the refinery and chemical industry, which saw a 31.2 percent increase in turnover. However, the food and beverage industry experienced a turnover decline of 6.7 percent. While many entrepreneurs expect increased turnover in the third quarter, challenges such as labor shortages and insufficient demand remain.
