Abruzzo automotive industry sees Stellantis investment amid competitiveness concerns

Stellantis announced a strategic investment of more than one billion euros in a new hub at Val di Sangro for the next generation of large commercial vehicles. The plan, confirmed by CEO Antonio Filosa, is praised by the CNA Abruzzo as a boost for the regional supply chain, especially for the many micro‑ and small enterprises that form the backbone of the local automotive sector. The union also notes lingering challenges such as high energy costs and bureaucratic hurdles that could affect the smallest firms.

At the same time, the Fim Cisl union has warned the Abruzzo regional government that suppliers in the Valle del Tubo area face mounting price pressure from customers, with requested reductions of up to 8 percent. It points to competition from lower‑cost producers in Serbia and fears that reduced margins could threaten jobs and the viability of the wider automotive ecosystem. The union is calling for an urgent dialogue with regional authorities to address these risks.
