Abruzzo mountain leaders propose new economic and environmental strategies

In the Abruzzo region, local political and provincial leaders are proposing new strategies to revitalize mountain economies and improve environmental safety.

The Direzione Sulmona movement has called on regional authorities and park management to implement a radical change in territory management. To combat forest fires, the group proposes active maintenance of woodlands and the removal of dry debris. They suggest a circular economy model where community cooperatives manage undergrowth cleaning and mountain activities to create stable employment and prevent depopulation. Additionally, they advocate for the industrial recovery and processing of fallen wood.

Simultaneously, the Province of Teramo, in collaboration with maestro Enrico Melozzi, is planning a cultural event titled ‘Uniti per il Gran Sasso Teramano’. The initiative aims to draw attention to the mountain district, showcase local resilience following seismic events, and encourage investment. Provincial President Camillo D’Angelo noted that the project is intended to promote sustainable mountain tourism and support the completion of strategic infrastructure projects funded by the PNRR.
