Abruzzo unions push for regional heat‑risk protocol in workplaces
Italian trade unions in the Abruzzo region are urging authorities to broaden heat‑protection measures beyond the recent regional ordinance that safeguards outdoor workers in agriculture, horticulture and construction. The unions in Teramo – FIM CISL, FIOM CGIL, FELSA CISL and NIDIL CGIL – argue that indoor factories and metal‑mechanic plants also face dangerous temperatures and request specific guidelines for these settings.
The UIL Abruzzo has welcomed the ordinance but calls for a comprehensive “Protocol Abruzzo” covering additional sectors such as logistics, road‑maintenance, public services and indoor workplaces lacking adequate climate control. Proposed actions include uniform risk‑assessment procedures, adjusted work‑hours, extra breaks, hydration, training, health monitoring and updates to company safety documents, involving the region, INAIL, health agencies and employer and worker representatives.
