Italy faces wildfires and severe weather across multiple regions

Italy is facing a series of environmental emergencies involving wildfires and severe weather. In the Amalfi Coast, massive fires between Maiori and Tramonti have triggered an intense aerial response involving Canadair aircraft and helicopters to protect residential areas.

In Abruzzo, the WWF has issued warnings regarding the need for better forest fire prevention, noting that extreme heat and dry vegetation increase risks to protected parks. Meanwhile, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, the high-risk alert for wildfires has been lifted following heavy rainfall and temperature drops, though the region recorded over 40 fires this summer.

Severe weather has also impacted the Grosseto province, where strong winds and rain caused approximately 25 interventions by firefighters to manage fallen trees and flooding, including a temporary closure of the SS Aurelia. In Tuscany, political tension has risen following heavy storms in the Versilia area, with local officials calling for a regional state of emergency to support businesses damaged by the weather.
