Absa Bank expands digital finance and crypto custody services in Africa
Absa Bank has introduced new digital financial services across Africa, including the launch of Absa Next in Kenya and institutional digital asset custody services in South Africa.
In Kenya, Absa Bank Kenya PLC unveiled Absa Next, an integrated digital finance ecosystem. The platform is designed to provide consumers and entrepreneurs with a unified interface for banking, savings, investments, and credit. According to Managing Director Yusuf Omari, the solution aims to provide intuitive and personalized financial management that evolves with the user's lifecycle.
Simultaneously, Absa Corporate and Investment Banking has launched a digital asset custody platform in South Africa utilizing Ripple technology. This service provides institutional clients with a regulated environment to safeguard cryptocurrency assets. The platform employs hardware-based security and deterministic key derivation to manage private keys, addressing institutional requirements for governance and recoverability. This move follows reports that Sub-Saharan Africa's annual onchain crypto value exceeded $205 billion between July 2024 and June 2025.
