Absa launches digital asset custody service using Ripple technology

Absa Corporate and Investment Banking has officially launched Absa Digital Asset Custody, utilizing technology provided by Ripple. The service is designed to provide institutional clients with a secure, regulated environment for safeguarding digital assets and managing private keys to bank-grade standards.

The platform will allow for the management of various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and XRP, as well as tokenized real-world assets. The launch follows an initial partnership announcement between the two firms in October 2025, marking Ripple’s first major custody deal on the African continent.

Absa’s digital product leadership noted that Ripple’s technology was selected for its ability to meet high security and operational standards. While specific fee schedules and initial client lists have not been disclosed, the service is positioned as a digital-first offering for the African institutional market.
