Abu Dhabi medical facilities achieve milestones in organ and bone marrow transplants

The United Arab Emirates has reached significant milestones in medical transplantation. Since the launch of the national ‘Hayat’ organ and tissue donation programme in 2017, more than 2,150 patients have benefited from organ transplants through June 2026. In Abu Dhabi alone, the number of procedures performed in 2025 rose to 631, representing a 118 percent increase from 2024.

In a specific clinical success, Yas Clinic and the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre (ADSCC) performed an urgent bone marrow transplant on a 13-month-old child. The infant suffered from Omenn Syndrome, a rare inherited immunodeficiency caused by a RAG1 gene mutation, which left him vulnerable to life-threatening infections and severe skin conditions. The successful procedure utilized bone marrow from the child’s father.
