Medical transplantation advancements in the UAE
Overview
The United Arab Emirates is reporting significant advancements in medical transplantation services. In Sharjah, Medcare Hospital has launched its Organ Transplant Centre, marking the first time a private hospital in the northern emirates has performed organ transplantation. The facility successfully completed its first kidney transplant using robotic technology for a living donor.
Nationally, the ‘Hayat’ organ and tissue donation programme has facilitated more than 2,150 transplants since its 2017 inception. Data from Abu Dhabi indicates a sharp rise in activity, with procedures increasing by 118 percent between 2024 and 2025. Recent clinical successes include an urgent bone marrow transplant performed by Yas Clinic and the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre on an infant with a rare immunodeficiency.
