Nigeria’s FCT sees rapid infrastructure upgrades under Minister Nyesom Wike, praised by President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu lauded the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja for significant progress under Minister Nyesom Wike, marking 50 years since the territory’s creation. At a thanksgiving dinner Tinubu highlighted the inauguration of 31 projects within 28 days, noting that the administration has awarded 317 km of road contracts in satellite towns, completed 221 km and is executing the remainder. He praised Wike’s establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the removal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account, which enabled commercial‑bank funding for projects.

The government also unveiled the Abuja City Walk – a 250‑hectare mixed‑use development described as a “window to a multi‑billion‑dollar future.” The project, modeled on Dubai City Walk, is positioned as a free‑trade zone and a major draw for foreign investors, with the FCT minister saying timelines will be enforced through the project’s MoU.

Wike challenged any critic of the road figures to substantiate their claims on television, stating he would resign if proven false. The overall narrative underscores the Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” as a catalyst for accelerated infrastructure, investment confidence, and improved connectivity for residents across the capital.
