Abuja Continental Hotel remains operational after TUC protest
Abuja Continental Hotel remains fully operational following a protest and gate blockade by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff Association (HOPSSSA) on August 24, 2026. The demonstration was reportedly centered on allegations of unfair labor practices and claims that employees were being prevented from exercising their right to associate.
Niyi Agoro, Cluster Director of Human Resources for Continental Hotels Group, strongly condemned the blockade, describing the action as unnecessary and inconsistent with constructive industrial relations. Agoro stated that the situation was avoidable, noting that management had responded to TUC correspondence in good faith by proposing a meeting to address concerns, but the TUC did not respond or propose an alternative date before the physical blockade occurred.
Management has activated security and business-continuity measures to ensure the safety of guests, staff, and partners while minimizing operational disruptions.
