FCT Minister Nyesom Wike pledges road completions, orders demolition of illegal settlement, and seeks funding for Abuja
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike said all road projects under the FCT administration will be finished by the end of 2025. He inspected the Collector Road CO1 expansion linking the Nile University area to Lugbe and the Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II, praising contractors China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Arab Contractors and promising delivery by December.
Wike ordered the immediate demolition of the illegal settlement known as Ruga near Karmajiji in the Kukwaba District, describing it as a criminal hideout and a "time bomb". He directed FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi to work with the Department of Development Control to clear the shanties and prevent re‑occupation.
The minister also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to fund the abandoned Abuja Millennium Tower, whose completion cost has risen to between N300 billion and N400 billion. Wike said the FCT cannot afford the expense and that financing the tower would jeopardise other critical infrastructure, urging the project be classified as a national tourism asset.
