Nigeria FCT Minister Nyesom Wike initiatives

On 30 July 2026, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike announced that all road projects under the FCT administration would be completed by the end of 2025, citing expansions such as the Collector Road CO1 and the Arterial Road N1. He praised contractors China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Arab Contractors, ordered demolition of the illegal Ruga settlement in the Kukwaba District, and appealed to President Bola Tinubu for funding to complete the abandoned Abuja Millennium Tower.

Two days later, on 1 August 2026, Wike denied reports that he had approved a ₦750 million permit fee for 2027 presidential campaign billboards in Abuja, calling the claim political propaganda. In the same briefing he criticised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for neglecting development projects and deviating from commitments made under a peace agreement mediated by President Tinubu.

Later on 1 August 2026, during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike further rebuked Governor Fubara for establishing his own political structure within the first 100 days of office, warning that the move widens the development gap between Rivers State and Lagos. He urged the governor to build on legacy infrastructure he initiated, including the multi‑billion‑naira Port Harcourt Ring Road and twelve flyovers, to help the state compete nationally.

Still on 1 August 2026, Wike reiterated that Fubara’s attempt to create an independent political network was a major mistake that threatened the state’s growth. He highlighted the same legacy projects as essential foundations and, later that day, announced a reconciliation, urging unity and pledging to work together for Rivers State’s development, describing the feud as the biggest casualty for the state.
