ABVP and NSUI release manifestos for DUSU elections

Student organizations at Delhi University are intensifying their campaigns for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, focusing heavily on student welfare and infrastructure.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has released a manifesto centered on four pillars: accommodation, participation, trust, and results. Key proposals include constructing new hostels, conducting safety audits of paying guest (PG) accommodations, and improving women's safety through security patrols, pink booths, and better lighting. This follows the recent Satya Niketan PG building collapse. ABVP also aims to reform academic processes by ensuring timely examination results and increasing transparency in internal assessments.

Competing with ABVP, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has introduced an “Accountable DU” manifesto. Their platform emphasizes rent control, a digital portal for verified student rentals, and academic reforms such as a five-day academic week and mandatory monthly menstrual leave. The election comes amid a significant housing shortage, with the university hosting over 250,000 students against a hostel capacity of approximately 9,000 beds.
