Abycine International Film Festival showcases diverse Spanish cinema

The 28th edition of the Abycine International Film Festival in Albacete has highlighted various Spanish audiovisual works through press conferences and screenings. Featured professionals include cartoonist Paco Roca, actress Bàrbara Mestanza, and actor Antonio Dechent.

Key presentations include the documentary ‘El fin del olvido’, which explores historical memory through the work of Leoncio Badía, a cemetery worker who preserved the identities of victims during the Francoist repression. Additionally, the documentary ‘Sucia’, directed by Mestanza, addresses sexual violence and its social consequences.

The festival also recognized the documentary ‘Hora nona’, directed by Jorge Moreno and Matías Uris, with the Abycine Lanza WIP award, providing 7,000 euros for post-production. The film explores a mystery in a rural La Mancha village, blending suspense with local reality.

Other festival highlights include a collective short film by primary school students from Fuente-Álamo, titled ‘Fuente-Álamo, planos del tiempo’, which documents the evolution of their town through the eyes of its youngest residents.
