Acatlán councilors accuse Mexico interior ministry of meddling

Municipal councilors in Acatlán, Puebla, allege that the federal Secretariat of Governance (SEGOB) interfered with the town's Cabildo. Councilor Juliana Isabel said sub‑secretary Isauro Rendón instructed her to postpone the scheduled session from July 31 to August 10, a move the councilors rejected as a violation of municipal autonomy. They also criticized mayor Guadalupe Bárcenas for obstructing their deliberations and filed a detailed report with the state congress.

SEGOB responded, emphasizing its commitment to stability and social peace in Acatlán. The ministry called on local political groups to respect prior agreements, offered to listen to citizens’ concerns, and proposed a meeting on August 5 to seek a dialogue‑based solution.
