Acatlán de Osorio residents announce Atlixco toll booth blockade
Residents of Acatlán de Osorio have announced a total blockade of both directions at the Atlixco toll booth on the Siglo XXI highway, scheduled to begin at 6:00 AM on Friday, August 21.
The protest aims to demand the recall of municipal president Guadalupe Lucero Bárcenas. Demonstrators have cited various controversies regarding her administration's performance over the last four months. Additionally, the group expressed strong opposition to the potential installation of a Municipal Council, a measure being considered by the State Congress to address the ongoing political crisis in the municipality.
The conflict, which began in June, has previously involved sit-ins at the Municipal Presidency and has led to an ongoing audit by the Superior Auditor of the State of Puebla (ASE) following allegations of irregularities. The planned closure is expected to impact more than 7,000 vehicles daily, as the toll booth serves as a vital connection to Atlixco, Morelos, and Guerrero.
