Accell bankruptcy disrupts bicycle supply chains in Europe

The bankruptcy of Accell, declared by an Amsterdam court on August 11, 2026, is causing significant disruptions in the European bicycle market. Accell, which owns brands such as Batavus, Sparta, Koga, Haibike, Lapierre, Raleigh, and Babboe, faced financial difficulties due to unsold inventory and costly recalls.

Urban Iki, a wholesaler that exclusively distributed bike seats through Juncker Bike Parts to Accell, has been heavily impacted. To restore availability for bicycle dealers, Urban Iki has launched its own ordering portal to supply retailers directly. The company noted that while uncertainty regarding Accell had existed for two years, the sudden bankruptcy was unexpected as payments had been made consistently until recently.

For consumers owning Accell-branded bicycles, experts note that many components, such as Bosch motors or Shimano gears, remain universally available through other suppliers. While manufacturer-specific warranties may be lost due to the bankruptcy, legal consumer warranties remain the responsibility of the professional retailer from whom the bike was purchased. Curators are currently investigating the possibility of a restart for Accell.
