Accra authorities address unauthorized structures and safety concerns

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly have conducted a joint enforcement operation to remove unauthorized structures and trading activities around the Achimota New Overhead Aayalolo bus stop. Led by Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the initiative aims to restore public spaces, ease congestion, and ensure that designated bus stops are accessible for Aayalolo buses and other commercial vehicles.

Separately, concerns have been raised regarding the safety of deteriorating outdoor advertising structures along major highways in Accra, including the Tetteh Quarshie area. Reports indicate that many large metal advertising frames are in various states of decay, featuring torn banners and exposed metal. There are growing calls for metropolitan assemblies, road authorities, and advertising companies to conduct inspections and ensure these structures do not pose a collapse risk to motorists during heavy weather.
