Accra-Kumasi Expressway funding and corridor clearing progress

Ghanaian Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that full funding for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway will be secured by the end of this year. He noted that this could mark the first time a project of this magnitude has had its entire budget secured before construction begins, emphasizing that no debt will be incurred for the project.

In preparation for construction, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Engineers have made significant progress in clearing the project corridor. Of the 176-kilometre stretch earmarked for the expressway, engineers have cleared 170 kilometres, leaving only six kilometres remaining. The clearing process, which involves navigating challenging terrain, is in its final stages as the team moves toward Sawua.

The completed expressway is intended to improve connectivity between Ghana’s two largest cities, reduce travel times, and alleviate congestion on existing routes, facilitating more efficient transport for passengers and goods.
