Accra ranked 18th among the world’s top nightlife cities

Accra has been ranked as the 18th best city for nightlife in the world according to a new list by Time Out. The Ghanaian capital was one of only two African cities to appear in the global top 20, with Johannesburg ranking seventh.

The ranking was determined through feedback from over 24,000 residents and assessments by culture experts and nightlife specialists. Cities were evaluated on criteria including affordability, safety, quality, diversity, and hospitality. Accra received high marks for its sense of community, with 75% of residents stating it is easy to find connection while out, and 62% noting that nightlife activities are affordable.

The city’s entertainment scene is anchored by districts such as Osu and the growing area of East Legon. While Afrobeats remains a central element of the culture, the scene is diversifying with electronic music, alté, and R&B. Other notable venues mentioned include Bloom Bar, The Republic Bar & Grill, and Enzo Accra.
