Accra ranks 18th globally for nightlife in Time Out 2026 report

Accra has been ranked as the 18th best city for nightlife globally in Time Out’s 2026 rankings. The Ghanaian capital was one of only two African cities to appear in the top 20, alongside Johannesburg, which placed seventh.

The ranking was based on assessments of quality, affordability, safety, diversity, and how welcoming the city feels to residents and visitors. Key factors contributing to Accra’s high placement included its social warmth and affordability, with 62 percent of residents describing the nightlife as affordable and 75 percent stating that finding a sense of community is easy.

While Osu remains a primary entertainment hub featuring established venues like Republic Bar and Bloom Bar, East Legon is emerging as a significant second destination. The city’s scene is characterized by a diverse range of music and subcultures, including Afrobeats, electronic music, alté, and R&B.
