Accra security guard remanded for alleged murder of elderly couple

A security guard, Abraham Newton Awundok, has been remanded by the Adabraka District Court in connection with the alleged murders of Dr. Jesse Amuah, 80, and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah, 64, in Accra.

The prosecution alleges the killings occurred on March 23, 2026, following a dispute over a GH¢1,500 payment. Awundok, who worked for a security company near the couple's residence and assisted them with chores, reportedly entered into an argument with Mrs. Amuah regarding payment for his services.

According to court testimony, the confrontation escalated when Awundok allegedly struck Mrs. Amuah with a pestle. When Dr. Amuah attempted to intervene, Awundok reportedly attacked him with a kitchen knife, a pestle, and a piece of concrete. The prosecution claims the suspect continued the assault until both victims were deceased. Following the incident, Awundok allegedly fled the scene in the couple's vehicle with their mobile phones and valuables, later concealing their bodies in a septic tank. He was arrested in Dubai and deported to Ghana to face two counts of murder.
