Murder of Dr. Jesse Amuah and wife in Ghana

Overview

In March 2026, Dr. Jesse Amuah and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah, were murdered in Accra, Ghana. Their remains were discovered in April after they had been reported missing.

Following an INTERPOL Red Notice, a suspect identified as Abraham Awondok (also referred to as Abraham Newton Awundok) was located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He was deported to Ghana on August 30, 2026, where he reportedly admitted to the killings.

Court proceedings in Adabraka indicate the motive was a dispute over a GH¢1,500 payment. Prosecutors allege that the suspect, who worked as a security guard and assisted the couple with chores, attacked Mrs. Amuah with a pestle and subsequently killed Dr. Amuah with a kitchen knife, a pestle, and concrete. The suspect allegedly fled the scene in the couple’s vehicle with their valuables and concealed their bodies in a septic tank. Awundok has been remanded by the court to face two counts of murder.
