Aceh Besar authorities arrest child rape convict after two-year manhunt

The Aceh High Prosecutor's Office Fugitive Capture Team (Tabur Kejati Aceh) has arrested MY (22), a convicted child rapist who had been on the Aceh Besar District Attorney's wanted list since November 2022.

MY was apprehended on Tuesday at approximately 11:30 WIB in a house in Gampong Tungkop, Darussalam District, Aceh Besar. During the arrest, the suspect resisted and attempted to flee through a window, leading to a one-kilometer chase. Authorities reported that warning shots were fired during the pursuit, but the arrest was completed without any casualties.

MY was originally sentenced to 80 months in prison by the Jantho Sharia Court following a conviction for child rape. He had escaped from the Class II Banda Aceh Special Child Development Institution (LPKA) on June 6, 2022, while he was 16 years old. Intelligence reports had previously suggested he may have fled abroad in 2023 before his recent location was identified in Aceh Besar.
