Achaia begins second olive fruit fly control spraying cycle

The second general bait spraying cycle for olive fruit fly control in Achaia is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 31, 2026. The operation will cover several communities within the municipalities of Patras and Aigialeia, including Argyra, Sella, Rio, and Aigio.

However, the program will not cover all planned areas. Due to legal appeals during the tender process, 11 communities in Aigialeia and Western Achaia—including Selianitika, Kamares, and Petrochori—remain without a contractor for ground-based spraying. This issue persisted from the first spraying cycle in July.

Local authorities have advised olive growers in the uncovered areas to manage the pest immediately using their own resources. Beekeepers are also requested to move hives away from areas undergoing spraying.
