A major fire broke out at the historic Achaia Clauss winery in Patras, Greece, early Saturday morning around 05:00. The blaze caused significant damage to the facility, completely destroying a two-story stone building known as the Daniliades cellar and its adjacent tower. The fire also destroyed a 19th-century historical clock located within the complex.

Despite the destruction, firefighting efforts involving 27 firefighters, a specialized ladder vehicle, and a foot patrol team from the 6th EMODE successfully contained the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings or the adjacent forest area. No injuries were reported.

Crucially, the winery's historical archive and the Imperial Cellar, which houses valuable old vintages, remained untouched by the fire. The company's CEO, Nikos Karapanos, confirmed that the most precious wine stocks were saved. Due to the incident, the scheduled 'Open Trough 2026' event was cancelled. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the source of several explosions heard during the operation.
