Acre hosts community firefighters to strengthen integrated fire management

The government of Acre hosted the 1st Exchange of Community Firefighters and Integrated Fire Management at the Antimary Integrated Environmental Management Unit. The event, held between Bujari and Sena Madureira, aims to strengthen the role of community brigades, facilitate knowledge exchange, and improve coordination between public and private institutions.

Organized by the State Secretariat of the Environment (Sema) and the Acre Military Fire Department (CBMAC) in partnership with the Earth Innovation Institute (EII), the meeting includes firefighters from various conservation units, such as the Lago do Amapá Environmental Protection Area and the Antimary State Forest. Participants also include representatives from Tocantins, Peru, the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), and the social organization Aliança da Terra.

The initiative is part of the state's preparations for the dry season, focusing on enhancing prevention, monitoring, and response capabilities regarding forest fires. Discussions cover climate change, perspectives for the Southwestern Amazon, and strategies for implementing integrated fire management methodologies.
