Acre implements environmental initiatives and fire prevention measures

The Government of Acre is implementing environmental initiatives through both community engagement and strategic fire prevention. To mark Amazon Day, the state organized the “Amazônia: o ar que eu respiro” race, which saw all 450 available spots filled within five minutes of registration opening. The event, coordinated by the State Secretariat of Government and the State Secretariat of Environment, also served a social purpose, as participants donated new toys for social actions.

Simultaneously, the Acre State Secretariat of Environment (Sema) and the Integrated Center for Geoprocessing and Environmental Monitoring (CIGMA) have submitted a list of six municipalities to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) as high-priority zones for forest fire prevention and combat. Using a methodology that analyzes heat spots and burn scars, the state identified Feijó as the highest risk area, followed by Rio Branco, Sena Madureira, Tarauacá, Cruzeiro do Sul, and Brasiléia. These classifications will guide the deployment of firefighting brigades, aircraft, and surveillance to mitigate risks during the upcoming fire season.
