Acre political landscape shifts as Mailza Assis seeks re-election

Mailza Assis, the current Governor of Acre, is running for re-election in 2026 as the head of the Avança Acre coalition. Representing the Progressistas party, she is running alongside physician and former federal deputy Jéssica Sales (MDB) as her vice-gubernatorial candidate. Assis assumed the governorship in April 2026 following the resignation of Gladson Cameli, who stepped down to pursue a Senate seat.

Meanwhile, Gladson Cameli remains the only one of eight Senate candidates in Acre whose registration has not yet been approved by the Electoral Court. His candidacy is currently pending judgment by the Regional Electoral Court of Acre (TRE-AC). While other candidates have had their registrations deferred, Cameli's legal process continues following the rejection of motions for clarification filed by his defense team.
