Legal disputes and regional mobilization intensify in Acre

Overview

The Acre gubernatorial and Senate election campaigns continue to evolve through legal challenges and intensifying political mobilization. The Regional Electoral Court of Acre (TRE-AC) previously denied the 2026 Senate candidacy of former governor Gladson Cameli following a conviction for corruption and money laundering, a ruling he is currently appealing to the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

Legal scrutiny has intensified for incumbent governor Mailza Assis. The TRE-AC has ordered Assis and her running mate, Jéssica Sales, to defend themselves against allegations of a falsified pedagogy diploma. Senator Alan Rick has further challenged the authenticity of this certificate, claiming that a declaration from former faculty administrators does not sufficiently prove her attendance. In response to Rick’s criticisms, Assis’s campaign released a video featuring an airport agent who alleges they suffered professional and personal harm following a confrontation with Rick at a Brasília airport.

During a recent televised debate, the controversy over Assis’s academic credentials resurfaced when Alan Rick questioned the validity of her pedagogy certificate, alleging it lacked proper Ministry of Education registration. However, the Instituto de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (ICSH) issued a statement confirming the legitimacy of her diploma, which her campaign asserts proves the allegations are “unfounded attempts to disrupt the election.”

Recent polling from the Delta Agency, conducted between September 23 and 29, 2026, provides updated standings for both major races. In the gubernatorial contest, Mailza Assis leads with 40.62% of intended votes, followed by Alan Rick at 30.50%. In the Senate race, Senator Márcio Bittar leads with 20.25%, followed by Gladson Cameli at 16.38% and Mara Rocha at 15.94%. Bittar’s campaign has notably utilized an unconventional strategy by actively campaigning alongside his substitute, Jebert Nascimento, to leverage their respective political bases.
