Acre faces wildfire surge and intensifying 2026 election spending

The state of Acre is facing significant environmental and political developments. According to data from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), wildfire hotspots surged by approximately 770% in August 2026, rising from 56 in July to 487. This spike occurred primarily in late August, contributing to deteriorating air quality in Rio Branco. In response, the State Court of Accounts (TCE-AC) and other institutions are organizing a climate agenda meeting to help municipalities prepare for extreme weather events and disaster management.

Simultaneously, the 2026 electoral cycle is intensifying. Over R$ 15.4 million from the Special Campaign Financing Fund (FEFC) has already been allocated to candidates for Governor and Senate. Notable recipients include Governor Mailza Assis, who received R$ 3.03 million, and Senator Gladson Cameli, who also received R$ 3.03 million. Additionally, election-related polling in the state has already involved R$ 460,124 in declared expenditures.

On infrastructure, gubernatorial candidate Tião Bocalom has proposed that the state could use its own resources to begin opening a road to Peru, provided federal authorization is granted.
