Activision and Bethesda challenge AI-generated gaming projects

Major gaming publishers Activision and Bethesda, both owned by Microsoft, have taken action against AI-generated projects that replicate their intellectual properties. One developer, using Claude Opus 5, created ‘Fallout: New York,’ a browser-based experience featuring missions and dialogue trees generated entirely through code rather than traditional assets. The project was halted following a notice of intellectual property violation from Bethesda.

In a separate instance, Activision intervened against a project involving the use of multiple AI agents to decompile the source code of ‘Modern Warfare 2’ for PC. This resulted in the removal of demonstration videos due to copyright claims.

In the political sphere, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has applied to register her voice as a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. This move follows concerns regarding deepfakes and the unauthorized replication of her likeness and voice. While the registration aims to provide legal recourse against manipulation, experts note it may not automatically prevent AI voice replication.
