Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 set for October 2026 release

Activision is preparing to release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC. The title is being described by Activision as an ‘epic conclusion’ to the Modern Warfare sub-series that began its reboot in 2019.

Developer Infinity Ward aims for a ‘boots on the ground’ experience, shifting focus from specialized spec ops back to a gritty, grounded perspective of regular soldiers. The campaign is expected to feature large-scale military conflicts, including a North Korean invasion of the Korean Peninsula.

In terms of casting, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen has been announced as the main antagonist, ‘The Archer’. This follows a trend of utilizing high-profile Hollywood talent within the franchise.

However, the release faces community pushback regarding matchmaking. A petition led by content creator Tyler Smith, known as Tdawgsmitty, has gained over 11,700 signatures calling for changes to skill-based matchmaking, which players claim negatively impacts the gameplay experience.
