Sonam Wangchuk discharged, will visit Rajghat then return to Ladakh
Activist Sonam Wangchuk is scheduled to be discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Monday, 27 July 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m. after completing a 26‑day hunger strike that protested alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET‑UG examination. Following discharge, his team says he will travel directly to Rajghat in Delhi to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi before heading back to his home region of Ladakh.
The hunger strike, launched on 28 June at Jantar Mantar, was organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). During the protest, Wangchuk was moved to Safdarjung Hospital on 18 July, where he alleged he was treated like a detainee. The Delhi High Court later ordered his transfer to Medanta for better medical care. The 36‑day agitation concluded after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, marking the protest’s primary political outcome.
