Actor Stanley Ma reflects on career lows and personal recovery

TVB Best Actor winner Stanley Ma recently opened up about the most turbulent period of his life, following his highly publicized 2011 relationship with casino tycoon daughter Laurinda Ho. Ma revealed that the relationship led to a period of professional and personal crisis, which he described as losing his job, his relationship, his image, and his friends.

During this low point, Ma faced significant criticism from peers and the public. He noted that the loss of his friendship with actress Moon Lau was particularly painful. To rebuild his life and career, Ma turned to running in the early morning hours to avoid paparazzi and find mental clarity.

After returning to TVB, Ma accepted various supporting roles to regain his footing. He expressed gratitude to industry figures such as producer Lee Tim-sang and entertainer Eric Tsang for their support during his comeback. His perseverance eventually led to critical acclaim, including a Best Supporting Actor win for “Alliance” and ultimately the Best Actor award for “Squatter Mansion 2” in 2022.
