Actress Kelly Cheung reveals pressure to film explicit scenes in TVB drama

Actress Kelly Cheung (Zhang Xiwen) has disclosed that she initially refused to film a highly explicit, seven-minute continuous shot for the TVB anniversary drama ‘City of Splendour’. The scene, which involved Cheung performing semi-naked alongside actor Julian Cheung (Zhang Zhilin), was reportedly modified on set by producer Chan Wai-kwon to include more nudity than originally scripted.

The refusal caused a production halt of nearly three months. Cheung eventually agreed to the scene after being persuaded by veteran actresses Yuen Wing-yi and Kong Mei-yi during a social gathering. Yuen Wing-yi reportedly promised to personally oversee the set to ensure privacy and a controlled environment during the shoot.

The drama has faced significant controversy since its premiere, drawing numerous complaints to the Communications Authority regarding its bold content and suitability for prime-time broadcasting. Viewers have raised concerns over various scenes involving nudity and intense physical interactions.
