Kelly Cheung TVB drama production and reception

Overview

Actress Kelly Cheung has drawn significant attention for her role in the TVB drama ‘City of Radiance’ (also referred to as ‘City of Splendour’). Initial reports focused on her performance and fashion, noting her portrayal of a calculating socialite and her use of over 30 high-fashion outfits to enhance the character.

As the production progressed, controversy emerged regarding the filming of explicit content. Cheung reportedly refused to film a seven-minute continuous semi-naked scene with actor Julian Cheung, leading to a nearly three-month production halt. The scene was eventually filmed after Cheung was persuaded by veteran actresses Yuen Wing-yi and Kong Mei-yi, with Yuen promising to oversee the set to ensure privacy.

The drama has since faced public scrutiny, receiving numerous complaints to the Communications Authority concerning its bold content and suitability for prime-time broadcasting.
