ADAC warns of traffic congestion during Bavarian autumn holidays
The ADAC (German Automobile Club) is warning motorists of increased traffic congestion as Bavaria begins its autumn school holidays. As the last German state to start the break, a wave of travelers is expected to head south toward the Alps, Austria, and Northern Italy, particularly on Friday afternoons and Saturdays.
Key highways identified as high-risk for delays include the A7, A8, A93, A95/B2, and the A99 Munich bypass. Additional delays are anticipated due to construction work on the Brenner route in Italy and at the Lueg Bridge in Austria, where traffic is restricted to a single lane. Travelers returning to Germany should also account for potential time losses at border controls.
In Austria, the ÖHV (Austrian Hotel Association) reports a trend toward domestic travel, with 72 percent of surveyed travelers planning trips within the country. Meanwhile, in other parts of Germany, the end of holidays in states like North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg is expected to cause heavy return traffic toward the north.
